I am not much on surprises for birthdays or special occasions.  I really do not like to be singled out for an award or overblown attention.  However, I do like quiet, genuine attention from those who care for me.  God is definitely one of those from whom I like attention.  He certainly surprises me by His interest in someone like me who at one time didn't care about Him at all.  Even now, I have enough faults that a holy God might be a little embarrassed to call me His son.  Yet, because of His character, He can only do what comes naturally to Him.

We find in the Scriptures that what He has done and what He continues to do surprises more people than just me.  Think about this:

1.  He gives grace to those who least deserve it.  Paul says that He is the "chief of sinners."  Yet, God chose to use Him in the most amazing ways.  He commissioned Paul to be the first missionary to the entire gentile world.  Likewise, God has a purpose for you and I to do good works that He prepared before the world ever began.  (Ephesians 2:8-10)

2.  He gives insight into previously hidden information concerning His purpose for this new entity the church.  He wants to indwell each individual who believes in His Son and unite us together no matter what race of people we are and make one people for His name.

3.  God invites us into His presence so many times that I don’t have the time or space to write them in this article.  He wants me to come just like I am.

4.  He has invited me into His of love and power empower me to face any adversity that life has to offer.  He does not want me to merely survive, but to soar in my within.

5.  Finally, He then tells me that He will do more than I even ask or imagine.

I have to tell you that the truths I just shared with you are found in Ephesians chapter 3.  I am amazed and surprised by this intense interest in me.  Unlike most surprises that tend to wear off, as I get older I am getting more startled by His Amazing Grace.  I pray that as you read these notes and Ephesians chapter 3 you will walk a little more humbled and grateful for His attraction to you too!

 Serving You,

 Don Martin
