 HAROLD'S Word from the Heart

As I write this article it is late at night and the end of a very long day. The type of day that makes you tired to the bone. But it is also the type of day that makes you thankful for God’s blessings. I was able to work hard, earn a living for my family, speak words of comfort to others in the name of Christ and then finish the day off with a fellowship time with other believers that included a meal and a time of Bible study.

As I was driving home at the end of the day it made me think about work and what the scriptures have to say on the subject. Rather than thinking of employment as a burden, I believe we should view it as the blessing that God says it is. The Bible begins with the story of creation. After the creation of man, it tells us that “the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” (Gen. 2:15) Some people believe that work was part of the curse that came with the fall of man. This scripture, however, clearly indicates that work was part of God’s plan from the beginning and part of God’s blessing toward mankind. It gave Adam a sense of purpose and usefulness. You will note that there was no paycheck involved. It was the simply the satisfaction of fulfilling part of God’s purpose in the earth.

The next time you are tired and think that work is meaningless I believe that it would be good to reflect on what God’s word says:

1.                  Work is part of God’s plan for humanity. (Gen. 2:15)

2.                  We are commanded to provide for our families. (I Timothy 4:8)

3.                  Industriousness is considered a mark of a Godly woman.

                     (Prov.31:10-31) and,

4.                  Idleness is considered shameful for a believer. (II Thessalonians

                     3:10-13)

5.                  God will reward those who seek to honor Him through their

                     work. (Ephesians 6:5-8)

Let’s seek to honor God in everything that we do including our employment.

Think on these things.

Brother Harold
